Sound Forge 9.0e

I have the latest Sony Sound Forge 9.0(e) upgrade. I am finding that
some of the parts do not work with Vista 64-bit. The primary function
that I am trying to use is the audio stream recorder. In the 64-bit
world and even in the 32-bit compatability mode, this software will not
monitor sound streams and therefore will not record streams. I have
contacted SonyMedia and they state that there are not any 64-bit fixes
out and no plan dates for an update are scheduled.

Anybody else having this type of interface problem? any work arounds
that you might have discovered?

At a guess, the essential missing portions are likely low-level modules akin
to device drivers; since they are 32-bit rather than 64-bit they won't work
in a 64-bit environment. And no, there is no way to force them to do so.

I didn't really figure there would be much of a work around
unfortunately. But, thought I'd see if there was some inventive sou
that just might have "invented" a way. Hope for an update soon

Unfortunately with stuff like this, you have to go by the manufacturer's
statements on compatibility, and it's best to check *before* setting up.

In areas like this, it's actually the application - which is determined by
the task at hand - that ultimately determines what OS can or should be used.

For example, for the Pro Tools it looks like no version of Vista64 is
supported, even with the Pro Tools HD version.

This incompatibility is often due to subtle or not-so-subtle issues with the
OS. For example, by the time that Vista was certified with ProTools, the
current Mac OS was not, because of an OS problem that would show up an hour
or so into a project. Absolute reliability is required, and OSX could
not make the grade.

This was of course at at time when Apple was paying a lot to publicly slag
Vista as not being "hip" or up to working with real multimedia apps. It
seems that Apple didn't quite appreciate the humour in the situation.

It looks like ProTools is now certified with OSX v10.5 leopard, as long as
certain updates have been installed (it seems that installing some updates
will break things again).

So, if you're finding that your recording gear doesn't work with the OS,
either find gear that does, or switch OS's. Research is required.
