Sound Problems with Update

I installed the critical updates sent to both my SP2 machines (XP Pro and XP
Home), and both sound cards would fail to initialize after installation. I
reinstalled the drivers, which did not work. I had to restore both of them
from before the update.
They have AC '97-based sound on the board.
I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem, and what I can do to
successfully get the updates?

I am having the same problem I installed the new updates and now my sound
doesn't work. I have also tried updating the drivers. Can somebody please let
me know if there is anything I can do to fix this

Rgunn,
I rolled back to my previous restore, and everything worked again. Of
course, whatever the update was patching is back, too.

I have a Sony VAIO Digital Studio with an OEM Yamaha AC-XG sound card. After
installing the XP SP 2 update, I lost sound. Yamaha no longer makes or
supports cards or chipsets.I tried the last driver version released (DSXGXP)
but no luck. I would like to keep SP2 but will roll back if I have to. Any
suggestions?
