Hi,

My wifes laptop ( Vista home premium) has suddenly developed a problem
with the sound volume. Every time she boots up,the volume has decreased
slightly and then decreases further when she boots again next time.
It has worked OK for nearly one year now but just developed this problem
a few days ago following MS updates.
Any advice to correct this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Almost Sounds like a Thermal Issue with the sound board
Does the sound ever Increase Back?
(While the PC is on)
or do you have to shut down the Laptop
let it cool down and start up and get sound back?

Hi Russ,

No the sound never increases back on its own when the PC is on.
After several hours or a day, after startup the sound is always slightly
lower than it was at shutdown & keeps decreasing, went from 26 to 14 in
a couple of minutes

Thanks

Ok So over night
does the sound restore back to normal?

My Point is it sounds like it may be Thermal issue
meaning when it gets warm the sound dies.

If over night the sound comes back
and the sound goes away after time it's on during the day
this would be my suspicion.
Is this PC under warranty by chance?
(I know probably not)

However you can try a device like this as a test

I've ordered things from them before
(So they are legit)

(However it is Chinese new year so it will be delayed a week or two)

Hi Russ,

No the sound does not return over night, it is at the level it was
during shutdown.

Since my last message, she has shutdown & rebooted a couple of times and
everything was back at normal which I hope stays that way !
Perhaps it is thermal related, time will tell and it is just inside the
warranty period.

Thanks for your help & patience

Fingers crossed for the next few days !!
