G'day, I installed Vista on a PC running a ASUS P5P800 M/Board with onboard
sound, Soundmax obviously, well the good and the bad, I run a 5.1 channel
surround speaker setup, WOOHOO, now the bad, ***%$^&@ Soundmax drivers, who
let these monkies out of their cages again, running under XP I had trouble
setting up the damn driver to accept the logitech speakers but I had the joy
of surround sound after much fiddleling and cursing and that was bad enough,
under Vista there is no sound in media player or Windows sounds at all, so I
checked thru the setting via Soundmax's beaut proggie and selected 5.1,
WOOHOO, I got sound for windows, BOOHOO, no sound for media player, now if
your like me and are pulling your hair out try this on for size, use STEREO
as your default speaker setup and you have sound in windows and media player,
WOOHOO, pity I bought a surround speaker system for my PC, pity ASUS doesn't
dump this useless soundcard and run a better integrated soundcard, just
thought it might help you others out there with the same problem, be warned
tho, I have had the sound drop out on occasions for no apparent reason and
have had to reset the whole thing again, this is another case of Soundmax's
inability to write a consistant driver for their product and I know I
shouldn't bag people on here but someone had to say it.
