Is any kind of information like source IP address sent to recipients when a
text chat message is sent? If so, how is that information accessible?

You say "it is available...in msn."

What does that mean ("msn" mean)?

The chat client Windows Live Messenger is installed on the recipient's host
machine. Is the IP address and other identifying information kept on that
computer in, say, under the "AppData" folders or other such thing? Is it
human readable?

Or does the person log in through a web page interface to gain access to
this information somehow?

no need to repeat oneself. You try to make a mockery out of my end o
day grammatical error, and you expect a response from me without givin
me any information on your OS, let alone your system specifications
(AppData is a file within vista - yes, and because I have no idea wha
your OS would be, I cannot say that this "log file" would be in you
AppData - nor by default would it be
Yes, I can say with certainty that if you were to allow windows liv
messenger to log all conversations - it would include an IP address o
the person that you were talking to

WLM contains an option, were it ticked to record all messages sent fro
the recipient also logging their IP - as to where it would be locate
would be the file destination of your choice. - MSN had this feature
years ago, Windows live is its successor and should also contain thi
feature
There is no Webmin access that I know of for the WLM program tha
contains this feature
This would also be subject to the "text chat message program"
Think logically. If something were logging all your messages the
should be "human readable
And any symbol is "human readable" whether its a language we understan
or no

Greetings,

Where are these IP addresses exactly?

Are you by chance thinking of the actual file names of the XML files?
For instance jonathan1057908650.xml? If so, the number here is not an IP address - it is a
hash of the Windows Live ID.

When(.. this is a few years ago now) windows live messenger (th
predecessor) was msn messenger, a source IP address was logged in a
instant message folder when a person was to log their messages. I a
unaware if this is the case now, because the interface is similar
assumed this was also the case now. If it is not, I am genuinely sorr
for posting false information
