SP-1 Use common sinse

People if it isn't broke don't fix it.
Amazing the users here and all over the Net has installed SP-1 just because
it something new?
I guess it's the nature of the beast, but beyond me why would anyone would
want to install SP-1 if their system is running fine without it. Oh yes,
I've read over many post where they installed it just to comment it didn't
change anything for them. I've read it has helped many and that's great to
hear, but again if your system is giving you no problems leave it be.

Well the problem is that lots of people have problems with Vista, and
they are praying that SP1 will change that.

Personally, SP1 does improve Vista performance, but only in comparison
with Vista prior to SP1. Still is lacking when compared to XP & Ubuntu.

I agree with you! You only have to read all the hassles and probs.
It was the same with XP SP2. The only way to install it properly was when
you did a clean reinstall of your OS.

huh ? XP sp2 was one of the greatest service packs ever released. upgraded
a bunch of systems and never had to clean install.

Hi Kurt,

I agree and understand that people have problems with Vista, but again only
those should try SP-1 as a last effort to fix their system. It would be
interesting to see just how many truly felt the need to install it, but that
we will never know. My hopes in my post was to make the users aware that if
you haven't installed it yet and your system is working fine then don't
install it. For myself I do not need it, I'm yet to have the very first
problem running Ultimate, but working on systems for many years I understand
for some there will be problems for many many reasons and not just the
operating system that causes them.

IMO, I do see from day to day that a lot of problems can be directly caused
from these OEM's that builds these systems that barely meet the requirements
to run Vista and push them out the door only to leave the innocent user to
fix it. So many new users think of a PC like a Microwave Oven, their all the
same, but many of us know different. A user buys a $400.00 machine, starts
having problems then has no idea why the neighbors $1,000.00 machine runs
OK. These OEM's put so much crap on these new machines it should be illegal,
especially these cheap machines. It's all it can do to run Vista then they
load them down so much junk it's takes 10 min to boot. Wonder what people
would do today without these newsgroups? better yet what would these OEM's
do without them?

Will SP1 correct existing problems with my PC?
No! Do not install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 if the PC is not operating
properly. SP1 was not designed to solve existing problems and may cause
additional issues.

Nonsense. If you RTFA, that paragraph is out of context. Near the beginning
of the article is "This document contains information on significant issues
and solutions that have been reported on HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario
computers. ".

A more accurate statement would be, "HP does not want you to apply SP1 to
resolve problems you are having on HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario
computers." Having owned a few, HP will eventually make the changes/updates
available and back away from their position. IMHO, HP recognizes that the
problems are with their drivers or configuration and know that SP1 won't fix
them.

The wifey's HP notebook hadn't had any substantial driver updates since Feb
of 2007. I tried to put SP1 on it in and guess what? She now has a Mac. I
blame HP, not Microsoft. Vista has been rock solid on a number of my non-OEM
machines.

Agreed, especially if you've already downloaded the majority of updates
prior to SP1 without problem.

Even more so since there are aspects to SP1 which are more in MS's interests
than yours - eg a further tightening up of security around wga / wpa. The
included bug-fixing is not just for the consumer's benefit.
