Afterdownloading and installing Win XP SP-2 system
crashed.
Believe the cause was to be I had SPYSWEEP active because
right after the SP-2 finished downloading, SPYSWEEP
flashed on the screen, then I got the BLUESCREEN
with the display "WIndows has encountered an error and
cannot proceed". From then on evrything went downhill.
The only way to recover is restore from CD. So I think
running adware and spy programs is OK provided they are
deactivated during any windows updates.

Any 3rd party software that may interfere with the installation of
SP2 should be temporarily disabled prior to doing the install.
This includes any script | ad | pop-up blockers , spyware programs
( Spyware Blaster is one example ), disk utilities ( Ex: Norton
System Works ), and antivirus programs.

Hi

If you able to boot into Safe Mode (tap F8 repeatedly early in
the Windows startup process) you can uninstall SP2 there.

If you are not able to get into Safe Mode:

This gives Recovery Console commands to uninstall SP2 and some info
about troubleshooting SP2 install logs:
