Is any reason given for the reboot? Any blue screen messages?
Another possibility is that one of your auto-start applications or services
is causing a DEP exception. If possible, disable all third-party auto-start
stuff using msconfig before attempting the SP2 update. Then you can
re-enable them one by one after getting SP2 up and running in a clean-boot
situation.
Other things to check are that, before applying SP2, you have updated the
system BIOS, and motherboard chipset drivers, and video and audio drivers,
to their latest versions.
