SP 2 installation faillure

Hello,
Help, I am trying to install SP 2 for XP but without success. The Microsoft
web mesage I get is always the same:
Installation failed code 0X80070017. Checked out all support tools on their
site and could not find any human explanation to this problem.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

0x80070017 = ERROR_CRC
Data error (cyclic redundancy check).


You may have a bad download - perhaps clean out your temporary internet files and
delete the SP2 download and try again

The other things I think of are disk clean up and also defrag the HD before trying
again.

TaurArien,
Thank you for your answer. I followed your advise, without success. I
finally got around by downloading SP2 file and installing it from the CD.

I also tried to use the SP2 disc, but & startingt over from scratch - still
ran into the message: 'System file 32 either corrupt or missing after several
days of it working.........glad you had success. My PC in less that 2 years
old & I'll still will stay away from SP2. A friend of mine got a new PC with
SP2 loaded and had nothing but problems with it and took it back the store
for the thrid time to ask for his money back! I'll stick with SP1 - It's a
wonder with all the Spy-ware & Virus software we have to run - its a wonder
anything runs - I have 'McAfee' & 'Spy-Sweeper' Maybe that's where the
problem is...................

I tried to install SP 2 six times and ended-up starting over from scratch,
because of an error message out of the blue that my 'System 32 file was
either corrupt or missing & I was just sitting there and hadn't done anything
- I had my most important files backedup on CD's, but it has or was a pain in
in the ass. I was advised by both Compac and Micro Service Store to NOT
install SP 2 as it was unstable and to use 'Windows 2000 - Professional'.
Don't tell me the Microsoft would put out and unstable product??????????? As
I didn't have several hundred dollars to purchase the product they sugested,
I installed SP 1 and haven't had any problems with my PC for the last 6-8
weeks (Knock on wood). Only problem I have now is that the automatice updates
says to installed '6 SP1 - KB823353 (Security File for SP 1), which I have
at least 5 times and it still continues to tell me to install it!
