IBM Netvista. SP 2 was automatically downloaded and I chose to install it.
Took 20 + minutes. The end results was that it screwed up the CD-RW. When
ever I tried to send a file to it there was no place in the "send" for the
CD-RW, it had been replaced with "Blue tooth". When I moved a file to the
CD-RW, it resulted in an error message to be sent to MSN. I checked the
Add/remove file and the "hotfiles" were no longer listed. They were replaced
by SP @ Package. I did a restore and the system worked "good". I checked the
Add/Remove file. The "hotfixes" had been returned. The SP2 was still there.
This morning a new notice appeared saying that there were "updates", did I
want to install them. It was a mistake!! It reinstalled the SP2 again with
the same problems. I made another restore.
My question is why does it screw up the CD-RW ability to be properly used
and also how do I manage to get "new" updates, with out the whole SP2 being
reinstalled?
Thank You. Vernon

What software are you using to burn the CD-RW's? Nero for one, I know,
needs an update to work properly with SP2.

On 9/25/04 I contacted MSN and they said to use the free SP2 disc, but to
install it while the computer was in the Safe Mode. Same results, several
error reports were generated and no good results from the CD-RW. I contacted
them again and their response was "normal", the problem lies with IBM. I
should contact them to resolve the problem!! Vernon

LITE-ON LTR-48246S [CD-ROM drive] The whole systems still "screws" up,
sending error reports, even when the CD-RW is disconnected. However as noted
MSN gives the "credit" to IBM. Thanks. Vernon

Called IBM regarding the SP2 problems. They said lots of their customers are
having the same problems. Their only suggested solution is to "zap" it and do
not reinstall it until MSN comes up with a "fix". Vernon
