Will SP1 address the missing Drives issue?

I have posted before about this, but it is NOW starting to really, REALLY
irk me...

My PC HAS the following physical drives:

A: Floppy (enabled but does NOT see to ever work - can live without it,
though WHY I should I don't know...)
C: for O/S and Apps
D: for Docs
E: DVD Burner
F: CD Burner
G: Removeable HDD for backups. Always connected at the moment, NOT always ON
though.

When I USE one or other of the E or F Drives to burn anything, or to just
PLAY a CD or DVD, the OTHER of these Drives just 'disappears' til the next
reboot. Occasionally the G Drive (when it's tunred ON) will also just go
missing and not be displayed...then it reappears...

I saw a 'fix', a patch, but that was said to be for XP PCs. I have Vista
Ultimate. Will that patch work (assuming I can find it again!?!?!).

Or will Vista's SP1 cure this?

Any help and guidance would be GREATLY appreciated as always.

Rgds

No idea, sorry.
I just provided the link. I don't have that problem (or 99.9% of those
reported here) so didn't read through it.
Other than a cursory skim.

A - What does enabled mean? Have you checked the cabling etc. to see if it
is plugged in properly. Does the light stay on? Does it work in another
computer?
E F - Sounds like you have installed some program which causes this problem.
Disappears from where? Disk Management has what informtion for these
devices? A E F

Here Rod. Sorry for the multiple posts, but I am trying to fix this
exact problem for a family member's computer on Vista. They have iTunes
installed. Here is some information on it, but I do not believe there
is an actual fix. I used this regedit for them and they keep needing to
use system restore to restore their DVD drive, just like you keep
needing to reboot.

Try this suggestion from this forum and see if it works for you:

Good luck. Post back and let us know.

i'd check your bios for the (A) drive and make sure it's enabled and set
to 1.44. as for the cd and dvd did you install them ? if so maybe you
forgot to change the jumpers on them .one needs to be master and the
other slave. hope this helps ...
