sp1 and sp2

Could not get sp1 to install.. then we tried sp2... "contol ID not
found" errors..we had run a "repair" on xp.. and updates were very hard
to get all in at once..had to get some..then go back for more... now we
cannot get sp2 to go...will download and then control ID etc.NOT a
pirated copy of xp home.. as loaded all fine before.. should we try one
more "Repair".. issue is we have more data then we can safely
backup....so cannot really reload xp as loose all data..
Tried a few ms fixes but found where they call out svcpac log that
someone said that is wrong as there is none.. ANY ideas and some
patience.. as we are ready to blindfold the PC, offer it a last
cigarette and stand it up against the wall.. Have new
printer/fax/scanner but it will only go if SP1 or 2 is in there and we
need to dax some data.. ASAP..
HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have eTrust antivirus program running or some other antivirus program
running that could cause a problem? see article below
