I have disabled UAC for convenience. I have not as yet, tried to
install SP1. Should I re-enable UAC before I do so?

Thanx

If you want a successful installation of SP1 without error messages,
you need to enable UAC before installing SP1.

have you tried Tweak UAC? put UAC into quiet mode. it seems to be a good
mix between security and convenience.

whatever you do though, pick a UAC strategy and stick with it. If you turn
it off, leave it off. If you use it, then leave it on.
Installing some software and updates with it off and some with it on will
give you nothing but troubles.

Remember that the Local Policy Control that you use for UAC goes away in the
SP1 patch. So whichever way it is, it will remain until MS issues a newer
patch

Do not work in elevated level; Day-to-day work should be performed while
the User Account Control (UAC) is enabled. Turning off UAC reduces the
security of your computer and may expose you to increased risk from
malicious software.

Dear Carey Frisch

Your comment that UAC needs to be enabled in order to have Service Pack
1 install successfully without errors is incorrect.

I disable UAC immediately after a fresh install and Windows Update
automatically downloaded and installed Service Pack 1 on my home PC a
couple of hours ago with no errors whatsoever so I'm not sure what your
basing your statement on?

With Kindest Regards

Neil
