SP1 Big Improvement in Disk Defragmenter!

One of my disappointments in Vista was lack of control over the defragmenting
of individual disks/volumes and Microsoft must have been listening to
someone! The Disk Defragmenter after SP1 now has a button to "Select
Volumes" which can be used to select individual volumes for defragmenting or
to remove disks from the automatic defragmenting schedule! I am very happy
with that change. It probably was working fine before but I like having the
control of my computer to deselect massive hard drives that contain media
files transferred from other drives after recording and to only have my (C:
system) and (G: recording drive) defragmented automatically. Thank you very
much Microsoft!!!!!!!

Xiowan,

I recommend an alternative to the Microsoft defrag tool. It's free and
IMHO does a better job. Here's a link to a short list of utilities
including a disk defrag program for Vista:
http://www.vistax64.com/software/139...ies-vista.html

I hope this helps.

And by vista SP2 they will add the visual feedback so we can see what is
going on
and how long it will take...

In other words after 2 service packs of vista we will have back what XP did
in the first place

LOOOOOOOOLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!

VISTA IS STUPID!

there are 2 free defrag programs...

google defraggler and auslogics

My guess is that the built-in auto-scheduled defrag would not do anything
anyway if it saw that the disk did not need defragmenting.

you like to see flip 3d don't you ? lol

I want to know how long a process will take, not having a stupid cursor like
round thing like indicator going round and round and round.. oh and the
stupid thing it says
Decrementing will take a few minutes or several hours... (something to that
effect)
"but we and Microsoft are hiding that fact because we like hiding useful
information but on the other hand we have other crap in your face.. LOL)

It was simple to have a percentage, no graph if you dont like colored boxes

Most serious defragmenter programs have this information...plus boxes! lol

Actually "decrementing" is probably the correct description as defragging a
hard drive certainly does eat into the life of that drive. But what does
Microsoft care? They've got billions of dollars - much more money than
their customers - which they of course made off their customers by
overcharging for their bloatware.

Cheers.

So your reply is Vista is Stupid? I guess with all your experience at
BestBuy, that is the best that you can come up with. Just FYI.

Oh yea, you should remove the (Better than an MVP) part, because you are no
better than the South end of a North bound horse.

You wouldn't know a process if it bit you on the Rear. The cursor is
important in Vista and you have not a clue.

Better go look up Alias and run to Ubuntu. That is about your speed. Just
FYI
