SP1 driver question for an MVP please

There are 2 driver updates that the regular Windows auto update has offered
to me in the past - one is for my web cam and the other is for my sound
card. I have downloaded and installed them and both devices stopped
working. I went to HP's web sit and downloaded and reinstalled their
drivers and the devices worked again. I have hidden the two MS driver
updates and I'm now using the HP drivers. Currently, MS update is not
offering SP1 to me and I'm assuming it's because of these 2 drivers - MS
sees incompatible drivers. My question is: If I (1) unhide the two
drivers and allow MS update to install the two drivers, (2) then install
SP1, (3) then, install the HP drivers so the devices work again, can you see
any obvious problems with Vista running with SP1 and the original HP
drivers? I know that you may not be able to answer this question because
this issue might be device and/or driver specific. I'm not chomping at the
bit to install SP1, but if not installing the MS drivers prevents me from
ever installing SP1, I need to know if I have an alternative solution.
Thanks for your help.

I would recommend keeping the HP drivers installed
and ignoring the ones from Windows Update.
Download the standalone version of SP1 and install.

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Standalone (KB936330)

Still checks for incompatible drivers before the install, doesn't it?

I don't see the webcam listed on the incompatible drivers list, but I would
unplug it and uninstall it (including the drivers checkbox) in device
manager. Depends on your soundcard, but I would disable the onboard
soundcard in the BIOS, then delete it in device manager (including the
drivers checkbox). You can then see if SP1 will be presented to you.
Incidentally when I did what you suggest with the Creative drivers, Windows
installed an even older version, so both were before the driver cut-off
date.

Check here. I had to delete a driver that wasn't being loaded, but was
available for 'rollback' apparently. Check here

Incidentally, Microsoft Update did download a different and proper driver
after SP1 was applied, but downloaded a more obsolete version before.
