Am on xp pro sp1
and have been frightened by all the horror stories on sp2 , si have
stuck with spi
my w/update is manual
when I went to w/update tonight after c 1 month of previous use, the
only updates available were:
sp2 avoided as discussed
software removal tool: which i installed
and 4 discretionary updates, media player etc which i avoided

in times recent, there could be as many as 3-4 updates to install per
day

am I being limited with updates because I have chosen NOT to install
sp2?

Regards

No. Not yet, anyway. There will come a time when you will not be able to
download updates unless you have SP 2 installed. For now, just install all
the other critical updates.

Get over your unfounded paranoia and install SP2 as over 180 million
other Windows XP users successfully have.

Get Windows XP Service Pack 2 with Advanced Security Technologies:

Hi David, you're not being limited - updates are available for SP1 and SP2. The last
critical update on my computer was 23rd February approximately. I just checked and no
critical updates are listed. I'm running SP2.

David;
Updates are now released on the second Tuesday of the month.
Check your Installation History and see what is show as most recently
installed and when:
Open Windows Update
On the left side click "View Installation History"

Carey

I know you mean well
but if you look at the number of "I installed SP2 and it all went
wrong............." messages in these newsgroups
there must be tens of thousands of them

so don't understand where you're coming from with your "unfounded
paranoia"

I apply all other updates oyther than sp2 as they arrive
I run spy bot and adaware weekly
I'm forever removing temp and temp internet files
I run diskeeper nightly
I've got the latest version of nod 32 a/virus
I run winroute as a firewall
I've got a professional network maintenance agreement
only I use the pc
no games
very little trialware etc
office is also bang up to date

so why should I risk all when I have a very stable home office
solution?

SP2 is entirely your choice whether to install or not to install.
I'm not here to push SP2 on anyone. If you're happy, then let it be.

David;
You should attempt to keep it in perspective.
Looking here, seeing the problems and assuming SP-23 causes problems is like
going to a hospital and determining all people are sick.
Generally only the people with problems post here.

Most problems with SP-2 or any update are prevented with a prepared
computer:
