I let Vista do all it's "upgrade". I also downloaded and installed SP1.

Still, Vista takes forever to delete a simple shortcut from the desktop, or
to create a folder (when trying to save a file to a newly created folder).

The "calculating time left" is still alive and well.

Any clues, aside from throwing it out the window?

Try the following performance tips:

Open Power Options (its in the Control Panel) and then
place a dot next to High Performance.

Next:

Open Device Manager (its in the Control Panel) and then
right-click on your hard drive (under Disk Drives). Click
on "Policies" and make sure there are check marks next to
"Optimize for Performance", "Enable write caching on
the disk", and "Enable advanced performance", then click OK.

Next, perform a Disk Cleanup:

Click on the blue Vista start button and then on the Computer
entry in the Start Menu. Right-click on your hard drive and
select Properties > Disk Cleanup > Files from all users.....
More Options > Clean Up (System Restore and Shadow Copies).

Consider installing addition RAM up to 2GB. Having a total of
2GB RAM installed will significantly improve overall performance.
Visit: http://www.crucial.com/ and run the Crucial System Scanner Tool.

Oh dear,

I am talking about a DOCUMENTED bug that SP1 failed to fix.

FYI, I have 2 gig of Mem, It's a desktop, not a notebook. and no, it's not
REMOTELY an issue of disk caching.

See : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931770/en-us

My apologies, I should have quoted this article first...

Let's start this again... Any ideas? Is Microsoft aware that their Hot fixes
and Service Pack don't fix or service anything?

Cheers.

I can do you one better... I didn't have this problem BEFORE SP1, and now I do.

Rename, delete and creation of a new folder all take minutes. All these
operations are on a local hard drive.

Someone please acknowledge this is still an issue and tell us how to fix it.
I can't do simple file management anymore.
