I have Vista without sp1 and installed the updates of 2007/2008 and I don't
see the sp1 in WU. How does it show? How do I check if I have sp1 installed?
I do not want to download the 434MB standalone pack, is there a solution?

Start | Right Click Computer and select properties

In the basic information about your computer it will tell you what service
pack you have. You may have downloaded and installed service pack to without
you noticing. Take a look and let me know

You can spot the "spoof" post by the answer. Gordon does not answer like that.
Gordon has a complete different style, I am sure that Manny also spots it the same
way.

That for sure... but to check, I look at the message headers.

I have "Ya Naire" and all permutations killfiled here so I didn't get
his reply. He might even be the spoofer. That IP rings a distant
bell.

Vista SP1 unlike WIndowsXP is a very paranoid update. It fears to be
installed on problematic machines - with hardware known to cause problems.
If your hardware is blacklisted by Microsoft, SP1 will NOT show on WU
updates list and you won't bve able to get it automatically.

If you force standa-lone download & installation, you risk running into
problems.
Two workarounds:

1) Find if problem hardware manufacturer offers updated drivers, then re-run
Windows Update again, see if it now likes your hardware
2) Do NOT bother and wait until Windows7

Vista was a step backwards for Microsoft, the entir epurpose of WIndows7 is
to undo Vista's harm and get back to hwere MS was with WIndowsXP, a;beit at
a new more complex/more powerful level.
Just wait for Windows7, don't wazste your energy on Vista anymore, it's a
piece of you know what....
