Is there any reason not to install SP1 - I read in PC Pro recently that some
have had problems after installing SP1 and I don't want to go down this
route if its going to cause problems.

Yes you should install - if you find it causes problems, uninstall.

It all depends on your computer. It stabilized mine. You can always
uninstall it if it doesn't work out.

Is there any reason not to install SP1 - I read in PC Pro recently that some

Denis

Here's my 5¢ worth:

My system ran fairly well b4 the SP1 install, then, when I uninstalled it (wanted to use GPMC without logging in to the 2003 Server
console), problems began. My point, the uninstall of SP1 is somehow flawed so that it does not return the system to the
functionality that existed prior to the SP1 install. In fact, one or two drivers have never worked since the install of SP1. Stable,
impaired systems are not a favorite of mine. It's like paying for steak then getting food poisoning after the meal is consumed.

I ended up having to trash the system I rolled back, copied a few files off the disk, reinstalled Vista ... never been the same,
since. Although SP1 is again on, the new installation has UAC messed up, seriously. On the first installation it was a useful thing;
on the new installation UAC is crippling, & must be turned off to run what for me are "all user" things like Windows Mail or Windows
Help or WMP or (the list goes on) ... which might make sense in some environments, just not in an environment I (theoretically)
own/administer.

It doesn't matter what piece of software you are talking about--there
are always *some* who have problems after installing it. Sometimes the
problems are with the software, sometimes the problems are that it's
been installed incorrectly, and sometimes the problems are an unusual
conflict between the software and the particular hardware it's
installed on.

There's always risk, small as it usually is. Nevertheless, in my view,
not installing it has security implications, and the risks of not
installing a service pack are almost always greater than installing
it. My strong recommendation is to install it.

capitalising each word in a sentence must have the intellengce of a genius
with all the girls in the world trying to get your pants off.
