If you're interested, there has been a development (see my reply to one of
the responses below).
The big problem is that the PC just jams up and it is impossible to get to
the Start button (never get the screen with that option) as all I get is a
message that SP1 failed to install and changes are being reverted. This has
been the case for over 15 hours now!!! Surely, nothing can take THAT long!!
All else failing, I'll see what I can do with what you suggest but I feel
that Microsoft is
letting its customers down in the end.
