SP1 update "in progress"

Win XP Home edition, slooooow (28.8) dialup internet connection. With SP2
coming I decided to use the Windows Update site to download and install the
Express SP1. Having at various times installed critical security updates
there was only 1.9 MB to take 11 minutes. I disabled my antivirus and
clicked download. The Weblog installer said it would take about 4 hours all
the while the progress bar slowly moved during that time to the far side. I
waited another hour and nothing had changed, another hour and nothing. I
couldn't click anything off so I assumed it was hung and shut the computer
down and rebooted. The update list says "in progress", the add/remove list
shows SP1. Now what? Really novice.

I'd leave it alone and wait for SP2. It'll be out soon, and SP1 is not a
prerequisite.

They are cumulative.

That sounds like the best suggestion I've had.
