sp1a crashes everything

recently i updated xp pro from no hotfixes/sp's to sp1a and since then it
crashes all of my games when i try to load them. ut2k4 and sw:kotor both
crash at splash screen with error msg, but max payne 1 doesnt even load, it
will appear in the task manager for a split second but immediately disappear
without any error msg, not only that but im constantly getting some WMI error
box thing popping up and if im not at my computer for a long period of time
they will pile up literaly and ill have to close about 17-25 of them, whats
going on, is this because of sp1a? whats causing this?

Uninstall SP-1a using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Then follow the Service Pack Installation Checklist and install SP-2
instead:
