My daughter has an emachine M2350 laptop that her university told her to
install SP2 or possible be disconnected from their service. I have tried 5
times and the screen keeps rebooting to the safe mode screen. It does not
matter which selection I choose, it boots back to the same screen. Emachines
gave some things to try, none of them worked. They now say that it is with
Microsoft and I should ask for help from them. I have upgraded two other PC's
to SP2 with no problems. Can anybody offer assistance? Thanks in advance!

If you are having problems installing XP SP2, you can contact Microsoft
Product Support and they will help you.

Here's the main SP2 support page:
http://support.microsoft.com/windowsxpsp2

On the top right is a link to how to contact Microsoft support over email or
telephone - here's the direct link:
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...spx?gprid=6794

Give it a try, they can usually solve your problems fairly quickly.

eMachines has come up with a patch to the registry which stops the
boot problem after loading Windows XP. Your BigFix should
automatically prompt you to install it.

I had the same problem but after installing the fix SP2 installed
without any difficulty.

After trying to install SP2 on an eMachine M2350 laptop for about 4 months
the fix finally came out in the BigFix program that came with the laptop. I
had to reinstall Wndows XP from the restore disk that came with the computer.
As part of the install a program called BigFix will also be installed. Look
in BigFix for a patch callled "updates:emachines M2350Registry Update
Available". After you let BigFix install this patch, SP2 will install
without any problems.
