If so what was the recommended solution.
If not, find another tech, one that is competent.
A competent tech will be able to specifically state why you should wait for
SP-2 and also state what you need to do in the meantime.
SP-2 most likely will not change.
What will change is the updates and patches for 3rd party products having
problems with SP-2.
You should be researching all of those to help be sure your computer is
ready for SP-2.
If you simply wait without researching, you are wasting your time.
