SP2 and Services

After installing SP2, I find that on boot-up some of my "automatic" and
"enabled" services are not started e.g. printer spooler and system recovery.
I can start them manually and all is well (except that the "Connect to....."
line doesn't appear in the Start menu). However, when I reboot, the same
services remain "stopped" and are not "running" as they should be. I have
done all the usual system checks, but something is clearly not quite right.
I would rather not spend ten minutes every time after boot up starting
manually all the services I need. I have installed and uninstalled SP2 three
times already following best practice. Most grateful for any ideas .

Hi

I suggest you check the event logs, run the following command from
Start/Run:

eventvwr.msc

Also, if you have IIS installed, check the status of the World Wide Web
Service, I have seen reports of this one hanging after a SP2
installation, this giving consequences for other services/functions.

Tak!

The system log has 23 identical messages: "The service did not respond to
the start or control request in a timely fashion". I am then invited to
check the WIN32_EXIT_CODE error at the C prompt, and that says that "the
specified service does not exist as an installed service".

So presumably something is not clicking in when it should do, because all
the services exist perfectly well with Win XP Home SP1.

I will investigate further.
