SP2 and taskbar

After installing SP2 I now have an icon for my outlook on the taskbar. I am
wondering if there is a way to disable that. Everytime an e-mail comes in the
system wakes me up at night. Other than shutting it down how can I remove it
so that it does not notify me there is new mail?

What SP2 are you referring to (e.g., WinXP SP2; Office 2003 SP2)?

Are you referring to Outlook or Outlook Express?

Why did you install WinXP SP2 instead of WinXP SP3?

In any event, Outlook-specific newsgroups include:

I only installed SP2 as my iTunes updated and it needed SP2. If I install SP3
will this resolve the issue? or will I just be posting about the same thing?
I have looked through the outlook forums to see if there was a way of
disabling the notification of new mail and was unable to locate anything
which is why I posted here to see if anyone encountered the same thing. I
will look at the news groups you posted in the meantime.

Again thank you for your replies so far.

I assumed that was the case. SP2 was released in August 2004: Why hadn't
you already installed SP2 before now? Is Automatic Updates (now) enabled
and are all critical security updates installed?

Doubtful, and I'm not even sure what the "issue" is. Are you referring to
MS Outlook or MS Outlook Express? Are you referring to a New Mail icon in
Notification Area (to the left of the clock)?
