scan down to "problems with latest IE uodate" It seems that the update
(KB896688) is causing havoc everywhere. To see if this might be the problem,
here is a simple test. Click the "Start Menu" - Click "Control Panel" - Now
cliick "User Accounts" - If the screen does not load properly you have found
the problem. If this is the problem, click "Add or Remove Programs" - When
the screen loads make sure you check the "Show Updates" box at the top. When
you scroll down the screen find update (KB896688) and remove it. After that
restart the computer. If this was your problem it will be solved. Make sure
you do the simple test first before deleting any updates. I also suggest
disabling the automatic updater before restarting as your computer will
attempt to automatically restore this update. I also suggest sending a
request to be informed when the problem is solved to your email account.
Just click the "contact us" link on the homepage and choose one of the links
to make the request.

sounds like you will have to reload from the beginnining with the application
disk. I went through that fun process. The thing that sucks about that is
you will also have to reload ALL you program files again. Hopefully you have
back-up disks.

Apparently you have a hardware problem:

<title>KB287553 - Error Message "Verifying DMI Pool Data" Occurs and the Computer Is Unavailable</title>

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000474.htm

(Courtesy Carey Frisch [MVP])

(Google Groups search for
verifying dmi pool data (MVP OR MSFT) (XPsp2 OR sp2) group:microsoft.*
- first hit
)

Good luck
