XP will ALWAYS set the maximum page file to equal the installed ram size
plus half the installed ram size(1.5 times the size of installed ram). So if
you have 512Mb ram it sets it as 512+256=768Mb.
Why would you you set it to 2Gb? XP will never use it and you're locking up
2Gb of your Hard drive that way. I would suggest going the other way and
*reducing* the size of the pagefile, to make XP and your running
applications utilse the avialable ram. I have my page file set at minimum
256Mb and Maximum also 256Mb, but then I have 1.3Gb ram in this computer.

PS. There are a lot of [often conflicting] opinions about the page file, how
big it should be, how to use it effectively, where it should be located,
etc.....
