SP2 built-in Firewall vs. Norton

From preliminary info I've seen thus far, it appears that when SP2 is
installed its firewall is enabled by default. How will this interact with
my Norton Internet Security 2004 firewall? I have always kept the
original/primative firewall, native to XP, disabled.

One firewall is all you require. Competition is not a good idea. Disable the
SP2 version.

You missed the point of my question, I know that only one firewall is
required, indeed there could be undesireable interactions if more that one
firewall is used --and that is the issue.

What is the proper/best sequences to install SP2 since it come with its
firewall 'ON' as a default --and my (Norton) firewall is also on?

Norton's is upgrading it's software 10th August to run
with WinXP SP2.
You can turn of XP's Firewall after installation.

From all reports, the XP SP2 Firewall is a very adequate weapon.

If you run SP2 and before getting any updates from Norton, then diable the
Norton Firewall and run with SP2's firewall.

Configuration of the firewall is easy, so don't worry if it 'switches on'
during the installation process. A minute or two later and you'll be able to
turn it off if that's what you want.

For my mind, I'd rather have less of other manufacturer's products
installed. It just means fewer process running and fewer starting up
[slowing down the PC]. In the end, a faster more efficient PC.

Over the years Microsoft has slowly knocked off many of the utilities that
Norton / Symantec have bundled in their 'System Works' Package. Norton's
keeps replying with deletion of some tools and then the inclusion of
something new. Along the way, they introduced Norton Internet Security. So
now: NIS vs Microsoft sees, spam filtering and firewall improved by MS to a
point where the NIS product is not effective, leaving only their Anti Virus
product worthwhile.

Your statement is a little misleading.
There are no issues between Norton firewall and SP-2.
Norton's update simply allows the Security Center to monitor Norton
products.
No other functionality is missing or hampered other than monitoring
which is not available at all with SP-1.

I am using Zone Alarm Pro on this computer and already have it configured
so I do not want SP-2's fire wall turned on. The default for SP-2 is on.
However, you can go to this site and follow the recommended three steps
and NOT choosing the option to turn on the SP-2 firewall if you desire.

Jupiter, your glib answer is just plain wrong: For many users including
myself there ARE issues between SP2 and Norton Personal Firewall!
I have spent many hours trying to find a solution to this by searching
support sites and newsgroups. The only thing that works for me is to turn
off Norton Personal Firewall. Otherwise I am unable to access many
favourites websites including http://search.msn.co.uk/. Norton support is no
help! I am still looking for a solution.
