SP2-where can I get it

I have tried to find a dll for Win XP SP2 on the Microsoft site but any
reference to it takes one to SP3.
There is one for IT people with multiple systems, and there is reference to
single computer updates - but links don't seem to go to the right place.
A friend has an old SP2 disc but there seems to be damage to it so he cannot
install SP2 first - which I believe he needs.
I can see SP2 on some web sites, but not too keen to get it there.

You can download the full package (227MB) here:
http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpsp2.html

bur installing sp3 would be a better idea.

Yes I wish that could be done, but the computer has never been updated to
SP1a - its as it was built some years ago. And that and or SP2 need to be
on first - according to MS instructions.
Softwarepatch was the only reliable looking site that I could find.

Thanks for your input.

This is also the one to use if you are downloading from a different machine to
the one you are updating. From Microsoft's point of view, that counts as
"multiple systems"!

In order to install SP3, you need either SP1 or SP2.

If his machine has a functional internet connection, Windows Update should
provide everything he needs.

If you're downloading it for him, get the IT professional download for SP3. If,
and only if, he doesn't have SP1, then get the IT professional download for SP2
as well.

No, that wouldn't be a good idea.

Harry.

Hello Harry - nice to see you are 'hovering' in the groups.

This is the one to which I think you/I refer - as I said, no link to a
single computer install - which I seem to recall was there when I had to do
this.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...5-9e368d3cdb5a

Yes it is quiet - quite nice I think.

I think it best to send away for the SP3 disc - but then I see no reason why
mine could not be used - as long as he has a 'key' for his XP.

Thank you for your input/confirmation.

That's the one. Just ignore the bit about "not for a single computer" which
doesn't apply in this situation.

There may have been a downloadable internet installer at one point, but even if
it were available, it would only work on a computer with a functioning internet
connection - in which case you can just use Windows Update.

Harry.

Many thanks for confirming XP1a.
I have the SP3 disc already and have let others use to update rather than
from MS site.
