SP2 causes all kinds of grief

grief # 1. I could no longer use my Samsung CD burner. SP2 support's
solution was "do not use SP2". My fix, I purchased a new Sony burner which
uses nero express. Even there, I had to update the software.

grief #2. My Palm Pilot Zire 31 no longer can synch. I uninstalled SP2 and
it started working. I did not see any new downloads under Zire 31.

Comments: Doesn't Microsoft take any responsibility?

While I agree that SP2 can cause a lot of problems, it's generally due to
either hardware/driver incompatibilities or underlying problems that existed
before you installed SP2. Neither of these is really Microsoft's problem.

If Samsung doesn't offer a new driver that will work with SP2, and has no
plans to, that's kind of their issue, isn't it?
Did you check Palm's support site for SP2 issues with your version of Palm
Desktop/Hotsync? Try updating to the latest versions of both?

Ref: Palm Hotsync problem after SP2 Install:

Maybe of any help: I faced the same (Palm Vx in combination with serial
craddle)
After a lot of puzzling (and no serious help of Palm other than: possible
incompatibilty between Palmdesktop and SP2) I found that Hotsync only
operated with 9600 and 19200 rate settings on both com:-port as
Hotsync-settingsheet (Local sett.)
SP2 install aparently changed something in these area: higher rates and the
As fast as possible option on the Hotsync side cause malfunctions.
