Working off a corporate image from 2004 with XP SP1 will not take SP2 with
out errors. Download SP2 local hard drive logged in as local admin and after
the install and reboot you hit CNTRL+ALT+DELETE log in as local admin (or any
other user) to get "Windows cannot create a temporary profile directory. This
may be caused by insufficient security rights. If this problem persists,
contact your network administrator.
Detail- Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service"
Followed by
"Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the
default profile for the system.
DETAIL- Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested
service."
Then sometimes it is followed by a warning aboiut being unable to
authenticate windows product (I don't have that error written down in front
of me at this time).
The only way to log anyone in is safemode local admin and if you unistall
SP2 evething goes back to normal.
The image was created 3 guys ago and we have no idea how much tweaking was
done to local policy or reg hacks or if has something to do with ZenWorks
which the image was created on. These are 40GB minimum hard drives so we are
not low on space and I have tried secedit to reset the security defaults and
think it worked and ended up with the same error. UHC does not seem to do
anything either and I have checked the registry to make sure the system drive
is identified correctly.
I was really hoping to get some direction from someone on what to look into
next. We have 150 machines across the US with SP1 running I would love to get
up to SP2 but can't find away to do so. Let me know if there is any other
info that would help.
Thanks
Jeff
