SP2 crashes

I had XP with SP2 running for months. My hard drive crashed three weeks ago.
I installed a new hard drive and re-installed XP, and all updates, but after
SP2 is downloaded and restarts, it crashes. I end up un-installing SP2. Any
ideas on what is wrong?

What else is different?

Yes to latest drivers. I have tried installing SP2 from Microsoft updates
website as well as off a CD-Rom that a friend has. Both end up with the same
result. Installation goes fine until restart, then I have problems and end up
restarting again in SAFE MODE and restoring to an earlier time and then
uninstalling SP2

The trick can be finding what is different now since it worked before.
What is different? Hardware, Drivers? Installed software?
Virus, spyware, malware etc?

Follow the Service Pack Installation Checklist very carefully.
If it is still a new installation, you could start over and reinstall.
