SP2 on Dell OEM systems....BEWARE!!!

I just had an experience downloading and installing SP2
on a Dell desktop. It fired up the Windows XP page with a
Blue (used to be green) flashing bar. Then the screen
went blue and Error C0000135 came on. From this point
there was no way to start the computer, in previous or
safe configuration. I spent 1.5 hours with the Microsoft
Level 2 support guy who told me there is a problem with
SP2 and OEM systems. It might relate back to a critical
patch (forgot the number). But basically we reinstalled
XP from the Dell disk and it got back up and running with
numerous error messages. It runs wonky now and more work
has to be done to try and restore it. My advice is NOT to
install SP2 until MS get this thing figured out.

You can temporarily disable SP2 from auto updates:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../sp2aumng.mspx

Installed SP2 on my Dell (XP Home) without a problem.
