SP2 disabled my Packard Bell 1200 plus Scanner
refer to my post of 10/2 " 16 bit subsystem error "
After uninstallation it worked.

For your "16 bit subsystem error"/Autoexec.nt issue in that post:

Could be caused a trojan or something similar, e.g.
TrojanDownloader.Win32.Dia.a, more about this here:

Also, AVAST (antivirus software) can be the cause
