The SP2 download would not have changed any system files on your machine
until you start the installation. It is possible that other software
installation or changes to your system caused this. I would recommend you try
to boot in safe mode and use system restore to get back to previously stable
state.

To perform a system restore go to Help and Support link in the start menu
then click on "System Restore" and follow the instructions on your screen.
