sp2 download fails

A recovery operation put me back to windowsXP three years old.

It accepted a few small automatic updates, but now it's reached the
point
where it's time to load SP2.
I clicked express update, and after a (long) while it aborted.
Another attempt, connected to the T1 line at the public library by way
of wifi,
also failed.
Should I try to use the option that's not express, they call it manual
or something.
Isn't there some way to do the install in smaller pieces?
I don't remember SP2 being such a pain when it came around originally.

Mr Frisch, let me say it again. The huge SP2 download at the microsoft
website always aborts.
I've tried it more than once.

"The huge SP2 download..." is not that huge and includes only the data
needed by your computer taking into account what updates are already
installed.
It can not be saved for future use.

The link Carey gave is the full Network Installation and is huge compared to
the download you are attempting..
You can download and burn it to CD for future use.
You can also order SP-2 on CD, Step 1 on this link:

There is probably something wrong with your computer.
Follow the above link to help be sure your computer is ready for SP-2.

Guess what, I did and it won't install from the disk.

Like what? I reformatted the hard drive using the recovery disk that
came with the computer.
Yeah, maybe there's something wrong with my computer. Maybe.
But I can say for sure there's something wrong with windows.

Your disappointed customer that will badmouth your goddamn software
company for now and evermore.
