"At first, I started to boil down the E-mails, trying to develop statistics.
But I soon realized that was unwise: Although I could perform simple counts
and ratios, boiling down the E-mails lost their essence and removed the
most-important information, which was in the detail.

So, I decided on a "Plan B." Yes, I'd do the rough counts and ratios, but
I'd also present to you a broad sampling of the reader letters in their
original form and in each writer's own voice so you could gain not only the
raw "pass/fail" information on SP2, but also see exactly what kind of
problems cropped up and what kinds of systems had no trouble at all. "

Idiocy and copout. Completely stupid.

Just as in this news group, few people who have experiences NO problems are
going to report to say that. Fewer people with problems are going to read
said report.

No, just the opposite is true. Very few folks percentage wise are
experiencing problems with SP2. The ones with problems come here and the
ones with no problems don't.

Right! The ones with no problems go to www.porno.com. Then they get the
problems (-:

Yep, those are pretty good issues for SP-2..if you say so.
The first one I read by "Kevin Fajcz" has nothing to do with SP-2.
He does not even know he is referring to updates and not SP-2 "Windows
XP Hotfix (SP2) [ See KB810243"
SP-2 is not involved at all in his issue.

The next I read (about a third way down) from Marco does not relate to
SP-2 either.
However apparently he has AU issues.
But clearly not caused by SP-2

The third was from Jim Ward. His scroll wheel (he seems to attribute
to his cheap mouse) and minor slowing of the computer.
Slowing is normal as you know as the prefetch needs a few days to
rebuild.

The fourth and last I looked at was Jeffrey Davidson, near the bottom.
No issues and seems very happy with performance increase.

A very small sample from an also insignificant sample.

I am not about to take the time to read them all so I picked a few
random samples, and yes they were random, once I stopped scrolling, I
read the first I saw.

You are free to read them all and tabulate the net results and see how
different the actual are.

However the circumstances of the originals is not necessarily
indicative of reality because of the method used to collect the
information.
But it is no worse than others out there either.

No, that's not the way it is in my experience. The folks I know do
not know about this newsgroup; they do not have time to post or
search for answers, and they are all having problems to varying
degrees. As usual, they rely upon friends to help them. If it weren't
for friends helping friends, I'm afraid there'd be a huge outcry against
windows. Just as there was when microsoft decided to abort the
MVP program.

"they are all having problems to varying degrees. "

Now, we've established your credibility.

SP2 works fine for the great majority of users.

You're an obnoxious SOB aren't you!

Judge not, lest ye be judged (Matthew 7:1).

If you are trying to kiss-up to Microsoft with posts like that, so they'll make
you an MVP, you are going about it all wrong...they don't like obnoxious
people.

Reply with your credentials and IQ, so we can all see just what makes you
think you are so well qualified to make snap judgements on others.
