SP2 failed, retry?

Hi folks

Having just about rebuilt my system after an SP2 failure (repair
installation, the works) I am left wondering ... what next?
Is there a definitive checklist of things to run/check out before trying to
load SP2 again?
I am aware of making sure there is no Spyware ... but how can I ensure that
the same thing doesn't happen again?!
