13 different attempts, using manual Windows Update site, and Automatic
Updates, have all failed. When I go to history, I receive the following
error message. It is the exact same for all...

Installation Failure

Error Code: 80070017
Try to install the update again, or request help from one of the following
resources.

For self-help options:

Windows Update Response Center
Windows Update Troubleshooter
Windows Update Newsgroups

For assisted support options:

Microsoft Online Assisted Support (no-cost for Windows Update issues)

Same error message here: 80070017. I've tried many of the fixes suggested
here and had no luck. Auto Update tells me to download every time I switch
the computer on but then after a few seconds the icon disappears and nothing
has downloaded. When I access the WU website, the screen with the download
progress comes up but nothing happens. No moving bars. Nothing. After a few
minutes I get a failure notice.

I have noticed the following behaviors of my computer that may or may not
have something to do with the problem. When I try to access internet options
from the IE tools, I get a notice that says "This operation has been
cancelled due to restriction in effect on this computer. Please contact your
system administrator" I AM the administrator and I don't recall doing
anything to restrict this computer. When I tried to reset the security
settings to default using the procedure described elsewhere on this board. I
got a message that said the command secsetup or whatever it was isn't a valid
command. I have also noticed that since I started applying some of these
"fixes" I now get a a error tone when my computer begins to shut down.

I'm at a loss.
