Stephen;
The proper fix can be difficult to determine without some research as
well as possibly some trial and error.
SP-2 is not and was not intended to be "idiot proof", however SP-2
does successfully install on most computers.
Consider the number of Windows XP computers in the world.
Now also consider that no two are identical.
Even with the extensive testing of SP-2, there is no way anyone
including Microsoft could have tested for all possibilities.
Did you check your hardware and software manufacturers for SP-2
compatibility?
Did you follow the checklist in my last post?
Otherwise temporarily swap hard drives if a spare is available.
Perform a Clean Install of Windows XP.
Install the same hardware drivers.
Then install SP-2.
If SP-2 installs, you know you have some sort of software conflict.
If not, you most likely have a hardware issue.
