SP2 Gives Blue Screen on Reboot After Installation

The SP2 install goes well until it is completely installed. When it tries to
reboot at the end of installation I get a blue screen error which reads as
follows:

STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error
\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

Please note that I do not have an AMD or Itanium processor, so the article I
am directed to the most does not apply.

Does anyone know the purpose of ntdll.dll?

Ntdll.dll is an NT layer DLL file that controls Windows NT
system functions.

STOP: 0xC0000221 unknown hard error
C:\Winnt\System32\Ntdll.dll (or another specific file or
driver)

You could try booting in safe mode, if not you could use
the recovery console and replace the dll file or remove sp2


It could be that there is a mixup of versions.
the new ntdll.dll SP2 (5.1.2600.2180) should be in the
c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386 dir. and be placed in the
c:\windows\system32

(or maybe you have like the article says some driver not
compatible with sp2)
