SP2 idenifaction problem

My cousin owns a Sony Vaio PCV-RX650. It's old. The computer has 512mb of ram
and a Intel Pentium 4 processor running at 1.60 GHZ. Windows Update says it
has installed SP2, but not SP3. It had failed though the family was all away
on the day it failed. The computer had a virus and the computer has 2
partions of XP on them. During startup the main partition has a green Loading
bar and says "Windows XP home edition". After my experience I know this means
it is not running SP2. Under my computter it says it is running Verison 2002

Send you cousin the following:

Backup your personal data, then do a format & clean install of Windows.
Please note that a Repair Install (AKA in-place upgrade) will NOT fix this!
