Here is what has happened.
1. Downloaded & ran WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe on 2 systems - everything
OK.
2. Ran same (WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe) on IBM Thinkpad T41 running PRO.
3. Install hung @ 50% complete (for over 12 hours).
4. Rebooted. BSOD on reboot - c0000135
5. Rebooted into recovery console & removed SP 2 with steps from KB 875355.
6. Tried SP2 install again - hung as per step 3 above.
7. Rebooted, BSOD on reboot c0000135.
8. Rebooted into recovery console & tried to remove SP 2 with steps from KB
875355. Uninistal HUNG.
9. Killed uninstall. Uninstalled Hotfix 824141.
10. Retried SP2 installation. Hung.
11. Retried SP2 uninstallation. Hung.
Final state:
- SP2 installation won't complete.
- SP2 uninstallation won't complete.
- Control Panel shows SP2 *is* installed.
- Winver shows Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 : Service
Pack 2)
- Firewall & wireless updates *are* present.
- SP2 Installation ever successfully completed.
- Security checks required for my RAS dialup indicate that SP2 is not present.
How can I either completely remove SP2 or get a full reinstallation?
