SP2 install problem

I've had to reinstall SP2 using the Windows Update facility in XP. The
install never moves beyond creating archive cabinets at the beginning of the
install process. Uisng update history, the question-mark dialogue box
describing the failed install quotes an error code 0x800706BE.

I've scanned the system registry for errors, and ensured that the install
occurs with no programs running (including anti-virus software).


Can anyone help? I'd be most grateful!
