SP2 installation destroyed a partition

I was installing Windows XP SP2 when my computer lost
power. When I turned it back on, it said an error had
occurred and to remove SP2. I click OK and my next
message was "The disk in drive D is not formatted. Do you
want to format it now?"


1) All of my data, and most of my windows settings are
stored on that partition. Is there anything I can do to
restore the lost partition to working order AND recover
the lost data?

2) When I tried to remove SP2, it did its thing for a
while, then I get an error "The system cannot find the
file specified." Clicked OK. "The Service Pack 2 was not
uninstalled."

Any thoughts out there?

It seems more like the power failure caused the partition troubles.
