when Sp2 tries going through the installation and makes a record of my
drivers and such and come to my cmd.exe file (really close to the beginning
of the installation), it displays a message "Windows cannot access the
specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions
to access the item." Then service pack to asks if I want to retry or cancel
installation, I have to cancel, it then says I have an internal error and
quits. I try to access my cmd.exe through start>programs>accessories>Command
Prompt, same error occurs. Try access it through start>run>cmd.exe, same.
Try directly accessing the file in my system32 folder. Same error occurs. As
well, the file icon doesn't look like the standard Command Prompt icon does,
and instead is a miniature standard winow with white background (not the
typical command prompt black background icon). When I go into see if I have
any permissions set up in my multiple user accounts I can't find any. I'm log
on as Administrator and I have this problem. I've deleted and disabled all
the other user account just to make sure and the problem still persists.
I've also check physically in the registry for any permission present under
my admin account and none are present for any programs including
CommandPrompt. Please Help me.

Hi

If you have WinXP Pro, you might want to follow the procedure here and see

I just read the article and got no further than the line:
"To reset your operating system back to original installation default
security settings:
1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER."

I can't access my Command Prompt, so I can't do any of the steps there -_-.
I can access my Command.com the 16 bit one, but I believe most of the command
prompt commands/functions aren't present in the command.com, I'll try though,
just to make sure. Thanx again.
