SP2 Installed -- IE would crashed -- removed -- att reinstall

Removed SP 2 when all else failed in order to get back to the web for help.
Did thorough purge of alll popup blockers or av stuff that could have caused
the crashes.
Went to reinstall SP2 through WIndows update and it started, only to tell me
"Updates were unable to be successfully installed".
There must be a registry entry that need to be altered to allow this?? maybe

Installed SP2 on my 4 machines.
Runs fine on 3
IE hangs on the 4th (machine (unable to do a soft reboot, needs powered off,
then full reboot to work)
Uninstalled SP2
Machine 4 working again.
Tried reinstalling SP2
IE hangs.
Will now wait for the dust to settle on SP2
