I had exactly the same problem. Nothing would install after SP2. And yes, it
now freezes for ~30 seconds upon login, and it won't bring up any Propeties
dialogs for folders - so I can't share folders anymore.
However, after my 5th attempt of using either IE or the automatic updater,
it suddenly worked and installed the updates. But now it won't *uninstall*
anything from my system. The uninstaller just freezes indefinitely.
Ed, someone else will probably advise you differently, but with all the
problems SP2 has caused me, I think it's time for us to reinstall windows
completely and install SP2 over a clean installation. Now I've been a
legitimate user and developer for Microsoft OSs for most of my life, but I
must thank them this time - the frustration and annoyance this has caused me
has been enough to push me over the edge and download Fedora (a free Linux
distribution). I'm not advertising for it, but I thought I might let them
know - if even in a small way - that I'm tired, and I'm leaving.
