Folks,

Just installed SP2 last night. After rebooting, I kept getting an error
message saying the RPC server terminated unexpectedly, and windows needed to
reboot. The machine will then reboot. I was thrown into this endless
rebooting sequence.

So thinking i could fix it by turning the rpc service off, i tried just
that. went into services and disabled rpc services. Now everything has gone
haywire.

1. Taskbar is gone
2. I cant turn rpc back on because all the services (n the service window)
seem not to work. cant pull up properties, start or anything. When i try to
start the rpc service, i get an error messge saying it cannot be started
because a device on which it depends is unavailable or something like that.

3. when i access microsofts web site, none of the buttons (like cliking on
"GO" when doing a search) works. Even cant expand and read newsgroups like
these. I am doing this from work right now.

4. cant uninstall sp2. I tried that from the remove programs in control
panel and it starts but stops mid way saying " cannot find file". System
restore doesnt work either. same error message about a missing file or
service.

5. Windows firewall is also not turned on. I get a message when trying to
turn it on about a dependent ISS servive not being available.

Any of these problems sound familiar to anyone?

At this point, I am totally frustrated. Spent several hours last night
trying to get this to work. called tech support for microsoft and ended up
not getting anywhere. Was told to call my computer manufacturer (Gateway) for
a fix! CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT!
SOME ONE PLEASE HELP!

Hi Again Victor,

After hours of investigation and reinstalling Windows XP four times I have
finally come to the conclusion that SP 2 sucks and Microsoft have a lot of
ground to make up because Im sure we are not the only people with the same
problem. I have give up on SP2 I dont no what else to do. Sorry thats not
what you wanted to here.

I am seriously considering turning to LINUX as this GUI is a more stable
operating system.

Well done Microsoft for letting us down on a well hiped up long awaited
piece of junk!!!
